The PILL!

I want to know what other people opinions are: both from men and women!
I am personally STRONGLY against the pill for a few reasons but it all falls under this main reason!
We are giving steroids to girls who have no idea or responsibility. That is like giving a 15yr boy a syringe and a bottle deca/test. You just don’t do that!
Because of the lack of knowledge, it is very easily misused. Girls are having sex earlier, not using protection as much, eat and drink w/e. It is meant for people who have actual issues which many people do, BUT you need to understand and know what you are putting into your body. Once again it is like a boy doing prohormones/designer steroids.

Birth Control is a steroid! If men have so much acquiring it I think women should too (vice versa). It is a HUGE deal to miss a dosage on a steroid cycle, same with birth control, though consequences are not as severe and sudden, it makes a huge impact and needs to me cycled properly! E2 is almost impossible to filter out with our filtering systems (Parts of estrogens), which is released into the wild/recycled. Both Men, women, and animals alike are being exposed to hormones that are not meant for them to ever encounter!!! It is a much bigger issue than it seems! I think BC should be HEAVILY monitored and screened for people who TRULY need it (like women with ovarian cists) and other such things. FDA is all sorts of f**ked up. People who actually have real issues (I am speaking partially for myself) have to literally beg, lie and cheat in order to be scripted. People who have MORE knowledge than the clown who is writing the scripts! It sickens me with this drama yet any silly girl can say she is ‘not regular’ gets the ‘juice’. I am fairly certain that ‘not regular’ is pretty regular?

Do not get me wrong or anything! The people who need it deserve it. The people who are knowledgeable should have access to it! This should be the case for many things. But my first step is with this. I am not taking nor taken steroids, I have a great plethora of knowledge and interest about them but that’s also cupped with herbs, homeopathy, minerals and vitamins, etc. Supplementing, drugs, enhancing/changing the body/mind is one of the most amazing things to me! Hence that is why I am apart of this form: this is ‘mind altering’ in its own way a drug.

So enough of my rant, what do you guys think about this?!

I dont agree.

While BC is a technically derived of steroid hormones it is nothing like giving a 15 year old boy a syringe and Deca.

For one you do have to see a doctor every 6 months to get your prescription for the pill. They look at your medical history and some women cant take it.

They do explain in detail what the pill is and what it is doing. They just dont hand them out willy nilly.

There are medical reasons for taking both anabolic steroids (Deca) and Birth control. Body building, increasing athletic performance or trying to increase bone tissue for cosmetic reasons is not a medical reason for either.

Deca-Durabolin is generally given to people with degenerative bone disease. Side note… shortness is not a degenerative bone disease.

Nandrolone (Deca) is only produced in the Human body in very very minuet quantities. When you take it you bring the body to a state that it could not naturally achieve.

Progesterone and Estrogen which most BC is made from is highly abundant in the human body and fluctuates (more so for women) all through there cycles Taking the pill doesn’t bring you out of range of what the body can naturally produce. It brings the levels high enough to trick the body into thinking its pregnant so you don’t ovulate. Our levels reach this threshold in pregnancy so its not beyond a natural state the body can produce.

Pregnancy is a medical reason. Irregular periods have medical consequences as well. Until you have had a period in your life I wouldn’t be so quick to judge those “silly girls” who try to regulate there periods with BC.

I am one of those silly girls, I went on the pill when I was 15 years old because my periods were so heavy and irregular, I became anemic. There was no herb or homeopathy that would fix it and believe me my grandmother who was a herbalist tried. I also could not take Iron pills because they made me so ill. I still struggle to this day to keep my iron up and see a functional med practitioner for it.

The side effects to something like Deca are far more serious and severe then with BC. Like you mentioned if you miss a dose of Deca it can have serious consequences. The only consequence missing a BC pill is risk of pregnancy. Women’s bodies are far far more hormonal then men’s bodies and we adjust pretty well.

Actually if you look at history many girls got married and became sexually active soon after their cycles began. Of course most of the time it wasn’t by choice. But there was a time when if you were not married and having kids by 21 you were considered an old maid.

In my opinion its the boys responsibility just as much as the girls to provide and use protection.

Not sure what eating and drinking have to do with anything.

Pregnancy at any age is an actual issue. If you don’t believe me try passing a human the size of a watermelon out of your body. Our culture has changed and girls don’t get married at 13 to 16 anymore but while culture changed sexuality has not changed.

I do agree however that the FDA is fucked up. I also agree that estrogens are seeping into our environment but not from BC. Plastics are far more concerning to me. Injecting our food with hormones concerns me as well.

I also agree that girls shouldn’t jump on the pill for silly reasons and they should be educated by there gyno’s exactly what it is. Pregnancy and irregular periods are not silly reasons when you have to live with them. Its easy for males to make ignorant assumptions when they dont have to experience it for themselves.

Again until you have had your period your “certain” of nothing. You are comparing apples and oranges here. Yes they are both fruit but very different indeed.

I agree. The best birth control is teaching abstinence. Little girls don’t know what they are getting into anyway. I had a babysitter once who had her first child at 13.

Well if she were on the pill that wouldnt of happened would it LOL. Just kidding…well sort of. I agree 13 is way to young to be having sex and they dont know what they want then. I dont think samuraitea is just refering to preteens.

While I taught my kids abstinance I also taught them to be responsible when the time came.

Crikey - Have we stepped back to the late 60s/early 70s or what! :open_mouth:

Samuraitea, there are definitely drawbacks to hormonal BC as you allude to you in your post. For example, their potential to contaminate the environment is certainly a problem that affects both men and women. So yes, I agree it is something we should all be learning about and talking about.

On the other hand, we really, really don’t need more men making decisions about women’s reproductive health, or more men taking away women’s sexual or reproductive rights and options. There is too much of that in the world already.

I have issues with the comparision you are attempting to make between women using the pill for birth control, or to treat medical problems, and men using anabolic steroids. I just don’t see birth control as very comparable to taking anabolic steroids for aesthetic purposes. Also, the comment about “silly girls” needing the pill to regulate their cycles-- spoken like someone who has never had to deal with problems like constant bleeding, anemia from constant bleeding, excrutiating pain from abnormally severe cramps, severe emotional mood swings, ovarian cysts, entometriosis, and other problems that get lumped under “not regular” cycles. That these problems are common doesn’t mean they are normal.

Also, it is not clear from some of your statements whether you are only against the pill or other/all forms of birth control. It is not clear what your point is when you say that girls are having sex earlier (and by “girls” I’m pretty sure you mean “girls and boys”). All the more reason for girls (and boys) to have birth control options.

I would agree with you that people should have information and knowledge when making decisions about their health, but I’m not sure about knowledge being the deciding factor of whether people have “rights” to treatments or medicines.

If there was more interest in the research and marketing and use of birth control for MEN, maybe there would be truly viable options other than the pill? Something like this maybe:
Male Birth Control: New Procedure Is 100 Percent Effective, Reversible
If more men shouldered the responsibility for birth control, there would be less use of the pill and less estrogen contamination in the environment.

So, put up or shut up, guys. When you have injected your vas deferens with biodegradable gel, then maybe your opinion on the pill might be more interesting. Just sayin’

And finally, if you really want to worry about prescription drugs leading to environmental and health catastrophes, worry about the overuse of antibiotics, and the evolution of antiobiotic-resistant bacteria that result from that overuse.

I have nothing against teaching the positive aspects of abstinence, but teaching abstinence has become a euphemism for NOT teaching reproductive biology and NOT teaching kids how various forms of birth control work. People need to learn about reproduction, sex, sexuality, and how birth control works before they go through puberty.

Wow. I wasn’t trying to offend anyone. Sorry.

I don’t know who you think you offended but it wasn’t me and I don’t think it was Tisha either. LOL, I’ve seen lost of posts that lead me to believe that Tisha is rather difficult to offend.

Soooo…but now I’m curious. In your view, does “teaching abstinence” go hand in hand with withholding information about sexuality and birth control?

Nope I am not offended at all by your post. I will admit I got a little pissed when sam mentioned “silly girls with irregular periods” but not enough to truly be offended.

Tisha

I totally agree.
It’s funny that the check-ups every 6 months at the doctor go over without any sort of blood work from the previous 6 months. It’s more like, “Uh, yeah, I’m doctor Beavis, wus there any problems over the, uhh, last 6 months?” And you think back and say, well, I wasn’t hospitalized, so these hormones must work ok. And you get another perscription.

The 19 or so different Progestins that pass for Progesterone in BC pills have some funny side effects. Hairy lip/mustaches are the most hillarious side effect that accompanies progestins, different progestins have this effect at different levels. I guess women shaving mustaches is a small price to pay for the convienience of not getting knocked up.

The worst side effect is probably suicidal-thoughts. I have posted before how this has affected my family. Do a web search and you can see why it is in the instructions for all birth control medication. “Stop taking immediately if you have suicidal thoughts.” Everyones hormone balance is different, and ability to deal with perscription BC is different as well. Everyone doesn’t have the same side effects, but there is a 100% chance that there are residual side effects, besides the main effect of being able to eliminate the female bodies reproductive cycle, with a few mcg/day of hormone. The auxillary side effects differ between the dozens of recombinations of drug and delivery, who could know all the side effects?

I had to get blood work yearly when I was on it and I was on it for 20 years. Perhaps the blame should be on Dr Beavis and not just the pill or the user of the pill.

Yes there are risks of reactions with just about any drug, hormone or natural substance for that matter. Its the patients responsibility to report those reactions and Dr Beaviss responsbility to try to correct them.

My point is if Beavis sucks at his job your a butthead for continueing to see him. Get a new doctor,

Don’t agree. Personally I started on the pill at 17.
Not taking the pill didn’t prevent me to have sex with my bf at 16. Condoms exist.
Since I was 12 I was having 2 days a month in my bed twisting and vomiting with period cramps pain, and I had terrible acne from witch I still have a couple of scars.
So, for me, the pill was truly a magic pill that increased my life quality by 200%.

PS - why didn’t I start on the pill earlier? Because MY MOTHER thought it would be a good excuse to have sex earlier…
PS2 - I never had any side effects, only the good ones.
