No, though I’m wondering, why they have these annoying sirens in areas that are not in the evacuation maps (the phone book ones) such as here, which is definitely higher ground?
Our sirens are going off exactly on the hour, so the next one will be at 1:00 am,…
The guy on the news feed said that the towns are in charge of setting off the alarm every hour not the weather service there and they will set it off every hour till the water hits.
The reporter said he was 300 ft above sea level so he was fine and your higher then that so you should be ok to. But I would still try to check because I dont know shit about Tsunamis
I think I should be okay. Are you watching the Hawaii live streaming news, the one I posted the link for? It’s probably more accurate than CNN, etc, since its here, and first hand.
I really want to go to sleep, but the damn sirens will go off again in 6 minutes…and they last pretty long each time…
Hawaii Civil Defense are the folks issuing the alerts every 30 minutes and sounding off the warning sirens at the top of the hour. Strangely enough the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center is on Fort Weaver road. Not far from the beach.
I think its the same as the front of your phone book though.
I am switching back and forth between them but now I am watching the one you listed. I know the sirens can be annoying but thank goodness you have them. It happened so fast in Japan they couldnt set there’s off. Hawaii looks really prepared.
The address one was taking forever, so I just looked in the front of the phone book, they have tsunami evacuation area maps there too.
Yes, it is good they have the sirens even here, as Onedzguy said, hurricanes can hit anywhere, so maybe they’d be good for that too.
(((((Yawn))))) I know the second I close my eyes the sirens will go off again, I bet no-one’s getting any sleep in this state, they’re really, really loud…
Starting data back up. Printing hard copy of contacts list. Final check of survival kit with latest meds. Police is starting to shut down major roadways in low lying areas. Its time to pop some popcorn and watch the tv.
You’re so prepared! I’ve been meaning to put together one of those survival kits, haven’t gotten to it, living high enough above the sea level…
Okay, I’ll get a flashlight, just in case the electricity goes out. I should probably fill the tub with water, I know thats recommended too. Even if you don’t get directly hit, utilities can be affected.
And put the fridge and freezer on high so food won’t go bad, just in case…
Sillykitty, I wish you good luck. I’m shutting down my system in case we lose electricity. Its almost 3am. The 1st wave should be hitting Kauai around 3:09am. To everyone else; I hope to be back soon.
Thanks, but I’m okay, got my flashlight, took a shower, just in case…this sounds terrible but I wish it would hurry up because I really want to go to sleep…I just might, as long as those sirens don’t start up again.
