I would like to draw the attention of readers to this thread,
OD on alpha-Androstenol does give negative effects!![
This is what might be expected if the pheromone signal says “unwilling or unable to defend oneself,” especially if friends were acustomed to a more dominant signature.
One of my motivations for starting this thread was concern that people in positions that require dominance, like prison guards, policemen, persons in d/s relationships, etc., were being given advice to use social pheromones with no mention of potential downsides to the dominant position. In certain conditions this could be dangerous or destructive to relationships. Social pheromones, like most things, have both positive and negative potential. This thread may serve as a reference to point out some of the potential downsides to people that need to be aware of them. To that end I may assemble some relevant user experiences here, like the one quoted above. (Two mechanisms by which pheromones increase the frequency of aggressive behavior)
