I guess,for me, it boils down to the abilities I had from a very young age to “read” people and the deep empathy that is so lacking in our nonchalant society. I am blessed with my gifts and looked at it like : If I could get into the heads of these people and be able to connect for a split second, maybe there was hope to help or to change them. I felt if I couldn’t do that…at least I could help put them someplace they can’t hurt anyone.

When I was a teen, I was crazy about vampires. Read all of Anne Rice’s books. (yep, all .) Then I saw a trailer for Interview With the Vampire. With Tom Cruise as Lestat. Sorry but, Tom Cruise? 5’ 4" all American preppyboy Tom Cruise? He isn’t even blonde and he isn’t even French! A young Julian Sands would have worked much better.
Anyway, that pretty much killed the fantasy for me.
