whats the future of pheromones?

Is everyone going to start using pheromone sprays like cologne?
Will there soon be a pheromone revolution where tons of TV ads and posters and media covers feature pheromone products?
If it happens, How do you think it 'll change this world ?

Pheromone products have been out for a while..I think most people think they don’t work or are bogus. Maybe mainly because they haven’t tried it and they fear what they don’t know, or maybe it gets negative feedback from users who just sit around like a bump on a log expecting women to crawl all over them.

I don’t see pheromone products ever getting as big as colognes, but hey thats just my opinion.

I see mostly feel good type products entering into the mainstream, not the sex stuff. (yes, there’s definitely a sex aspect to feeling good)

With something like androstenone, it’s difficult to dose just right, it’s hard to tame chemically and incorporate into products properly, and outright sex effects are about as PC (politically correct) as walking around with your penis out.

To me, it’s the “old school” products heavy in -anone that will have the least success in the mainstream. Not unless mainstream society falls like Rome did, with Caligula like rule emerging.

There may be an interest in “feel good” products with the maturing “boomer” generation like me. We grew up during a time of “better living through chemistry,” recreational drugs, “free love,” etc. and that generation may be more open to using products like pheromones if offered, but perhaps it will be necessary for “mainstream” companies to market the prodcuts first (eg Gillette, Claiborne, etc.).

Younger users may also be more open to such products, but one can never tell.

it looks like mainstream corporate america, the big gun fragrance and flavoring shops, won’t touch this one with a ten foot pole for a whole mess of public relations, liability, “what if Geraldo wants to make a big issue out of this ?” concerns… so it has been backchanneled into the “adult entertainment” slot… comfortably out of sight from the Family Values crowd… ‘cause, face it… America today is not terribly at ease with sexuality, removing inhibitions, questioning authority and the power structure… it’s moderately OK if you get drunk off your ass and score some nookie in your collegiate wild years… and then you’re expected to settle down, lock into the community value system… keep the liberals, the homos, the multiculturalists, the alternative music listeners, all them problematic non-conformatists locked in the shack out in the pasture, well out of earshot. Pheromones have an unnatural tinge to them, guys could be bangin’ your wife in the utility closet, evil orgies breakin’ out all over, probly some voodoo and pentagrams too… not a republican talking point, ya know ?

that really sums it all up.. I couldn’t agree more.

Great points from both of you – Rbt and tacitus.

You know, besides the acceptability issue involving anything overly sexual, ANYTHING “new” is a pretty tough cookie to crack in the US.

Even the “feel good” aspect has it’s barriers.

Everything remotely new is viewed with suspicion, ignored, or, worse, seen as a way to riches for some liability lawyer.

You gotta realize… the silly little Segwayalmost never happened, for fear of liability. Letters to the editor in the Wall Street Journal said investing in something new like that would be foolhardy in a litigious country like the US.

“Money pored down the drain”, they said. They’d rather invest in the “same old thing” than something new. Something “safe”. Real estate, oil.

Speaking of the Segway, look at these !@&!@&& vultures I found on the internet – they’re prepared ahead of time:

This is why “the year 2000” never really happened. It was never the special turning point you thought it’d be, was it?

It’s why cars today don’t drive much faster than they did in the 1930s (unless you live in Germany, of course).

We reluctantly and slowly move into the future.

Alvin Toffler estimates that 2 “waves”, of about 30 years each, are needed for something to really penetrate society.

Could be even longer in the US as it is now, where helping to invent the future carries serious legal penalties. Where the inventive and creative are presumed guilty before being proven innocent. Kind of sad. :frowning:

the future of pheromones?

the IRS hand delivering your tax forms, saturated with black market IS of course.
