Well, I’m also in my late twenties and I know it is not easy to have not met the one yet when it is expected to marry. Truth is, if you want a love marriage, there is a risk of not having met the one at 40 and thus probably not having children. You may not fall in love next decade, or she may not love you back. For me personally, it is worth the risk because I would only want children in a marriage that is loving and that I think has a good chance to last a lifetime. Nobody is perfect and it is hard to learn to live with someone and share responsibilities and raise good kids. Without love to soften the rough edges, make the best parts shine and pull a couple together, maybe too hard. To have a good marriage, you need to give 110%, and to do that I must love a man.
I’ve read that research showed that arranged couples, after 15 years of marriage are as happy as romantic couples, so maybe it can work without love but I think it also depends on your expectations. Some older people from my mum’s country have happy marriages that were arranged, but I don’t think it has much chance of working for our generation. When I look at nonwestern people under 40 that got arranged while living in Europe, and also at a few western people who married someone without love because they wanted children, could not cook or had financial issues, it looks grim.
When you pass 25, in my opinion it is not necessary to settle straight away, but I do think it is good to do what you can do to be ready when you meet the right guy or girl. Why not take the time of waiting to learn the skills you need to be a decent husband and father? And make plans for your career that make you feel proud and fulfilled…you mentioned dreaming about clinic and research facility…I’m not sure what exactly you do, but you seem like a smart and disciplined guy from your posts. I trust you can make your dreams into solid, realistic plans. Another thing you can do is get over the need to use a woman to impress friends, it can really put off a woman who might otherwise make a great wife. A good book to learn alternative ways to gain a good status in your circle, and help you with career networking is “How to Win friends and Inflience people.” by Dale Carnegie. In the end, it does not really matter too much if you marry at 28 or 31 or 34, so as long as you are ready, don’t worry too, too much.
Maybe a focus on fast sex has indeed made it harder to meet a girl who is interested in settling down. It is not really black and white and some people sleep together within weeks yet stay together for life, but it may be better when you spend some time getting to know eachother without having sex. Lust can sometimes blind you to incompatibility, but if you really enjoy each others company a lot when sex is not on the menu, you certainly have something in common. You don’t have to turn down a girl if she really wants to do it, but some guys make a point of moving on if a girl is not open to early sex and miss out om some really nice ladies who feel they need to know a man and love him in order to want to share their bodies. It isn’t really about where you meet them, with some exceptions, because most women go to bars but also dinner parties, family picnics, library etc. and they would be the same woman but if you are focussed on hooking up you may miss out because you can give off a player vibe.
