I’ve read most of the thread and disagree with a lot of what has been said, especially with many of the generalizations that have been made about men. Either I am a very strange man and hang out with other strange men, or some assumptions were made on personal experience and that person thinks everyone else is the same way.
I did not lose my virginity to the first person I could, but rather my to a long-tem gf at a young to average age (mid teens). After that I have never slept with a woman I have not been attracted to whether it be on a physical or emotional level. Although I will admit at the risk of sounding shallow, that I have been physically attracted to every woman I’ve slep with.
I don’t sleep around or have the desire to sleep around.
Sex is great and one of my favorite activities ,but if I slept with every woman I was attracted to or I had some sort of connection with, I’d have to test myself for diseases way more than I would be comfortable with and run the risk of fathering a few unplanned babies. Also I value sex as something that implies a bit more thought, but I also admit I have had one night stands and don’t dislike them, just choose to keep them on the minimal.
In my experience I have found that most of the girls I talk to or get to know are actually really nice and many of those that seem bitchy have become some of my closest friends. So no, I don’t think women have gotten bitchier (although I did not live in the sixties so I could not say), but rather think that many guys just have that prejudice from the begining and don’t get to know these girls. Maybe it is the opposite and society and things like sitcoms and movies have made guys think that the average girl is a bitch, who knows.
The point to this self-centered post of mine is that I disagree completely with some of the assumptions that were made, but at the same time can understand the question posted by this thread.
I can definitely see the appeal of prostitution because frankly it is similar to the appeal of drinking or even drugs. An activity that provides a dose of pleasure with no short-term consequences. Add sex to this and come on, we can definitely understand it a bit better. I think women and men can both be attracted to this concept in this way, not only men, but let’s face it, it has been a lot more accepted as a practice men seek. It wasn’t long ago in societies of first world countries that father’s would take their sons to the brothel to lose their virginities, but how often did a mother bring her daughter?
The fact that it has been always frowned upon a lot more when women seek a prostitute I think has limited the amount of women that actually go out and hire one, but gigolos are less uncommon than we might think. Sex is a universal appeal, easy acquired sex is too.
Whether it is the power or the satisfaction that one feels when you can just look at a list of women (or men for some people), choose the one you like best, and engage in a completely self-centered sexual encounter (I doubt anyone is wondering how much the prostitute is really enjoying herself, but rather how good can she fake that she is) prostitution is nothing more than a quick fix of an urge.
I have never been with a prostitue even though I could afford most likely an attractive and clean one for the same reason I don’t do cocaine. Quick fixes with no short-term consequences usually bring long-term ones. Also, I think that prostitution (although quite attractive in theory) limits one of the things that I look for even in the most casual of sexual encounters, a chance of forming any type of connection or lasting memory. However, many people experience with such fleeting pleasures and like the idea of not having to work to achieve a certain end. I definitely feel like some days this is more tempting that others. However I feel pornography cures these urges in a much easier, cheaper, and legal way.
