Why more women are cheating?

Undressing Infidelity: Why More Women Are Cheating

Powell’s Books - Review-a-Day - Undressing Infidelity: Why More Women Are Cheating by Diane Shader Smith, reviewed by The Atlantic Monthly

It’s official: the conventional wisdom is false. It’s not men who leave their wives for younger, blonder temptresses; it’s women who leave their husbands for – well, just about anybody. Or nobody. The fact is, women initiate 66 percent of divorces between partners over forty. That, at least, is what they reported during a major AARP study, released last year.

interesting…

Umm I never knew that

how about in marriages under 40?

is anyone taking into consideration the mentality of those that even get married?

for a majority, its a religious issue.
doing the right thang.
(how many men would get married had their SO not cared if they ever got married?)

point being that people get married because they are taught its what you do if you are family-minded and then come to the conclusion that it isnt what they thought.

taking a survey of people that get divorced is limiting the study.

That was an excellent review, thanks for bringing it here.

I’ve been hearing that a lot lately, women in their 40s suddenly wanting out of their seemingly okay marriage - it’s no coincidence that it happens when she’s getting close to menopause. What many don’t realize is that estrogen doesn’t just suddenly drop at menopause; there’s a gradual decline starting by the time a woman’s in her 30s. Estrogen (along other hormones that also decrease with age) has great impact on a women’s moods and mental/emotional state, and as the years go by and we have less estrogen, we’re also a lot less willing to put up with … crap. Things that merely bugged us before become intolerable. Ask me how I know!

I could give 100 reasons why I think women cheat more but the reality is that people in general are becoming so self centered they just abandon their marriages as soon as it becomes the least bit inconvienient.

The reason women are cheating and there are divorces is because WOMEN aren’t choosing their mates. Men are…

I learned the above in Anthropology class
Many cultures around the world in which women approach men, etc. have reported not a single divorce or unhappiness in marriage!

Women cheat for the same reason men do … there are sooooo many reasons, but the real reason is … because they WANT to.

Interesting, it definitely would not work here though. In high school we had one Sadie Hawkins dance where the girls asked the guys to the dance. It was pathetic , you should have seen these girls flounder . There attempts to get around to asking someone to go with them were something I would expect from a little child.I guess a woman can do anything a man can do , unless it involves spitting game. :o

Social constructs

sadie hawkins isnt the real world
the social places in florida have plenty of women that initiate.tourist states.
its all in the personality your looking for.

I was born in Ocala and I visit family in Tampa and Fort Lauderdale about 3-4 times a year. And I have to say Florida’s women are extremely beautiful but also very strange and a little crazy. I know Florida women initiate alot of conversation but thats more of a crazy and desperate Florida thing.

P.S I am not calling you desperate , If that picture is really of you then you are probably beating them off with a stick but Florida is absolutely crazyland and I don’t think we can use Florida to gauge the bar scene across the country.

i can see where someone would think that.

i have moved around alot, i have lived in several states and in hospitality biz in most of them.

floridian gals act very very confidant.

they dress confidently, behave confidently, but its pretty much 50-50 on whether it is a facade.

or because they place their self-worth on how they appear?

desperate to me is behaving as if your not good enough for people, and we can see how that would come about dating people that need to lower the percieved status of the women they date.

the result taking someone down a peg equates to damaging their self-esteem… maybe there are more fragile women in fla?

are we talking about those hot latina mamacitas?

im sure some are.

I don’t know why this kind of stuff infuriates me so. Maybe it’s because I’m so frustrated by the social conventions that say men have to initiate and if women do, it violates the biological status quo and men like a receptive and soft feminine woman and yadda yadda etc. We have had a sexual revolution, women do have more rights and their gender construct has expanded BUT women, imo, have evolved WAY beyond what men and general society are willing to accept.

If a woman acts LIKE A MAN (e.g. takes on the same BEHAVIORS that are human in nature but have been encoded into the male gender paradigm – to mention some: direct, focused, serious, detached, active, logical), she is unapproachable, a strange, alien fortress of a woman that no man will attempt to plunder except the foolhardy or heroic. It makes me sick!

It makes sense that marriages where women chose their mates worked because when a woman knows what she wants, it cuts the static in the transmission and makes life pretty direct and relatively free of obstacles which are addressed as they come up. But for a man to accept that a clear path may be blazed by a woman? And give up control… ain’t gonna happen.

very interesting. esp since im thinking about getting married soon.

well chirimoya,

i have been behaviourally-challenged since i was a child, and anyone who ever asked me out had the common characteristics of being “eccentric”.
i think this is because i didnt dig bad boys (also unafraid to approach) and the only other personality that wouldnt feel bowled-over was either musically inclined or artistically inclined.

now that i am older, i appreciate the “foolhardy/heroic” , because they seem to be the least likely to fear how they appear to their friends when dating an outspoken gal.

i also think because i have issues with men that dont go after what they want, i cant grieve over their non-appearance in my life.

the problem is that it makes the kind of equally strong-personality hard to find :o

yah Lor, everything you said. I have had the same sort of life as well: eccentric guys, appreciation of those willing to take the challenge; difficulty finding an equally strong personality. but sometimes it still irks me that even though I may have found a way to work it out for myself, I still run up against the challenges of dealing with the (majority of) people who seem to want their women in easily digestible pieces.
