1971 sears catalog

It Came From the 1971 Sears Catalog
ouch :open_mouth:

Funny how Sears went from Catalogs, to Department Stores, to… Hedge Funds?

Wow, I nearly had a Magic Garden flashback. Too close for comfort.

Ahhhh, Naugahyde, where are you when we need you ?

uber-trivia: Naugahyde got its name from Naugatuck, CT. where the factory was. The Naugahyde mascot was a stuffed demon called the Nauga. You could buy Naugae by sending in a cupon with some money.

here is an example:

cute, eh ?

Only second in tactical nastiness to Corfam. According to wikipedia:

“DuPont withdrew Corfam from the market in 1971 and sold the rights to a company in Poland. Corfam is mainly remembered as a textbook marketing disaster.”

uber-uber-trivia: where did the term “trivia” come from ?

answer: apparantly, in the old roman empire, they lacked newspapers, paper itself being an unheard of innovation, however, they did have public bulletin boards at major intersections, especiall where three roads would intersect. These “trivialae” were the equivalent of today’s tabloid press, where anyone could tack up rumor, insults, jokes, etc.

The word then became adjectivized as “trivialis”… any common drivel suited to these boards, or being of that nature…

“Trivial” re-entered English usage in the early 20th century, probably from university students familiar with the classical cultures, and finding this term perfectly suited for modern media.

And here all along I thought that people ventured deep into dark jungles and shot and skinned naugas.

love it!

i kinda dig the walking suits actually.

and i’m fairly confident almost everyone around my age, has a turtleneck and plaid pants picture lurking around from the heady days of elementary school.

i had the best outfits ever before the 80’s struck and i started going to catholic school. actually that was prolly a blessing.

btw - one of my coworkers sent me a link to houses you could buy from sears. there were some great designs in there.

“Lemon Frog”? Someone was really hopped-up.

ha - a little reminiscent of 1999.com
