Mark-In-Dallas and whoever quoted him: “*T**hen the search tool could easily be modified to add “Search Titles”.”
*It can’t be. That is what Tisha was trying to say. That level of coding is not accessible to the board’s owners. This is InvisionBoard (I think); a pre-programmed software with so many configurable options, much like Windows which is why many people use Linux instead. It is entirely possible that no one running this board has any programming knowledge whatsoever, not even HTML, and if that is the case they couldn’t modify it even if the did have full access to the coding. If they do have advanced programming knowledge, they could, theoretically, design and code their own entire board, but in addition to being a bit excessive it would also mean that everything currently on the board would be deleted.
I don’t think a form is a problem; it doesn’t mean you have to fill it. You can report in way way you wish and it is not REQUIRED (I don’t know for sure if that’s how it would be intended but if not then the “not required” part is a suggestion), but a form is a good idea for new people if they are either stupid or overlooked some things and can’t figure out what details they should report. And one of the parts on that form can be, “Anything else interesting, unusual, or facts we might need to know?” Also when you are reporting without a form, you might end up with something irrelevant.. such as the color of their hair. It was what I personally thought about this but the community in general also seemed to agree, that it is the personality or culture of a person that will determine how they react to something and not their eye, hair, or skin color. There were at least 6 different threads which I personally saw that discussed this, and all of them seemed to come to that conclusion expect for one where I am not sure if a consensus was reached in. And since hair color has nothing to do with personality, that would be a coincidence and therefore irrelevant. Conversely, maybe the blonde people in that setting had a specific personality because of social things at that place that invovled being blonde. But it is probably part of the researcher’s job to sort out the things that are irrelevant.
Stories should however actually give a much better indication then non-emotional facts. Pheromones are a behavio-oriented science, and therefore the longer story you get and more personal, that probably gives better information in most cases. Not so much so as psychology, of course, but let’s say you report that you used a pheromone on your boyfriend, so it’s only one subject, and it had the effect of making him cum really freakin’ hard when you had sex that night. If you report it in a “factual” format, that is all you will say, but if you report it in a story format then it is far more likely that you will mention the fact that you had an intense conversation which worked out the one long-standing problem you’d had in your relationship beforehand, and that in addition to that he hadn’t had sex or masturbated in two weeks which is a really long time for him. In that case, the fact of how much he came most likely had little if anything to do with the pheromone, but you wouldn’t know that unless you read it in a story.
Also this may not work, but if the board search is being difficult you can try Google with the site: modifier. Or jut Google in general if there happens to be another site with relevant information which I have found a couple of times.
“It’s often easier to filter loosely and then eyeball the text for interesting sections rather than trying to find the perfect search criteria.”
Uh… try control + F.. then you don’t need to look through as much… also… if you can look through a text file of the topics, you can also look through the topics as they are on your screen… and also.. that level of coding is probably also not accesible to them.
" A section where posts are centered on a single product/mix/putative"
People already make topics like that.
As for journal sections in general… I have always thought to have a “journal section” on a board as stupid, because if somebody ants a public journal, they can have a blog, and if they don’t have a blog, they don’t ant one. But, in the case of this forum, it is a bit different, because no one is going to post a bunch of pheromone-related things in their blog. (Especially if they are not wanting the target(s) to know about I and the target is not an acquaintance. Although if the target is your boyfriend I would hope he’d know about it!)
Sorry if this post is a bit late, I just got the e-mail notifying of replies to this topic because I have over 100,000 e-mails right now. I thought the parts about reporting and forms could still be relevant because even if a decision has been reached, on something like that, any new input is always good as long as it’s not an exact copy of hat someone else had already said.
lol Carrie, I agree with you on some of that… people tell me “If my post is too long you don’t have to read it”… but… if it’s a main forum, I DO have to read it… make a point to read all threads… otherwise… people will think I’m an idiot hen I missed a discussion. And even more so for blogs… hat is the point of having a person on your MySpace friends’ list in the first place if you are not reading every blog they post?
