Today I went to Whole Foods wearing 2 sprays of that WAGG mixture I made earlier, plus a little Scent of Eros. I wanted to get some essential oils and perfume oils that my local store didn’t have.
I bought my oils, checked out from the store, and there was this Asian clerk there, maybe 24-32, and I was friendly to him and said hello. I went to swipe my card in the machine, and I just sort of zoned out a bit, figuring he was waiting on the machine on his end, and then after about 30 seconds he said “Sir, what is it asking for?”.
I go “oh, sorry… let me check the machine. I don’t often shop here, so I’m not too familiar with this.” He says “Did you enjoy shopping here?”
“Oh yeah, it’s great except it’s sort of far… and you know how gas prices are”. “Oh yeah… I know. Where do you live?”. I tell him where I lived and he’s like “Oh yeah, that’s pretty far especially with gas at $4 a gallon”. We have a few smiles and laughs in the conversation. It was a great exchange and one of the first times I’ve actually made much real small talk with people, so I think this is a milestone- I think I’m getting better at this.
BTW, I was actually nervous in the store. This place is on the ritzier side of Orlando and this place is always packed. I did get a semi-rude response from a woman who was looking at the oils at the same time I was, she asked me to move out of the way, to which I said “oh sorry”. She did her business and never said “thank you”, which I thought was a little impolite. Maybe she was just shy, who knows. This is an uppity side of town. The land is worth alot of money but most of the houses look like crap from the 1950’s.
I played around for a few hours mixing up oils… smelling them each individual and thinking about what I wanted to create (I’ve made some fragrances before, with mixed results… this time I was thinking of floral Oriental). I ended up mixing 2 drops of neroli, 4 drops of orange, 1 drop of rose absolute, 2 drops of geranium, 2 each of ylang ylang and jasmine, 1 each of frankincense, myrrh, vanilla, sandalwood, 1 synthetic ambergris, and 2 drops of patchouli, in a little bit of jojoba oil. I initially mixed it up without the geranium, but it smelled too feminine without it. The fragrance is actually nice - I like it, but like an oil pheromone, it doesn’t diffuse quickly, in fact if you are moving around there isn’t a huge cloud around you like with a spray, and it lasts a long time. And it’s pretty light dissolved in about a mililiter of jojoba. Incidentally, alot of these oils have aromatherapy properties that are good for depression and anxiety.
I also ordered some oud oil to try out, it’s a cheaper oud but I’d be interested in playing around with it and seeing what it can do, especially worn under something else or mixed with fragrant oils. I also asked around a bit on a few fragrance forums about unusual fragrances to try out that also were not too expensive. So I put in order for some Lucky You, Salvador Dali pour Homme, and Jade East.
Edit… I thought I’d add another blend in, just for posterity. 4 neroli, 2 sage, 1 rose, 1 rosemary, 4 frankincense, 3 myrrh, 2 ambergris, 1 vanilla. This one was suppossed to be more Arabian / Meditteranean themed. I really like this one and the scent is much more “clear” than the previous “Floriental” I created. All the oil blends I’ve created so far don’t seem very “manly man” scents, but I was trying to go for something somewhat neutral/mysterious and let the pheromones fill out the rest. I’ll see how they do this week.
