Hey I’m back home this week was a long one. From the get go my trainer was a bitch and she kept talking down to me the entire week. It wasn’t that she was telling me i was doing something wrong, but the way she said it.
I know this training is only a month long and I have to open a new store. We went over what I was supposed to know by today and I know 25% of what I need because she will not show me how to do things. i spent and entire week doing two things because I think she thinks I’m not able to do the job, she told me that she doesn’t trust me already. I heard her say to another employee that I’m no where close to being ready. She keeps complaining about my speed and how I’m not fast enough. The other of her employees told me that my speed is fine and that it is my first week and it takes time to get things.
The guy who hired me called and asked how it was going and I told him the truth. He said " our ways may be different but you just have to put you head down and get in there, he said we have the training tools, you have to put in the effort." I told him “I have no problem working hard, but she is not training me on what I need to know, so how am I supposed to know what to do?”
He said “are you having second thoughts”
The more I thought about the more I knew that I’m not overwhelmed, but confused on why a person would treat another person like this. I’m supposed to be part of a new team and I come in to this company and get treated like crap by my trainer, not a good way to start out the week.
I’m not sure what to do, I’m sure thing will be different when I have my own department, but making it to that point is going to be a problem.
Could be a lot of reasons. She could have PMS. Could be she feels threatened by you. Could be she is just a bitch. Could be she is on a power trip. Sometimes people feel the need to put others down to make themselves feel adequate. Its unfortunate but part of life. Another reason she may not be showing you all you need to know is because she is afraid you will surpass the teacher. No matter the reason keep one thing in mind. Its about her not about you or your performance.
Seems to me that if she is saying you only know 25% of the job after one week and there is 3 more weeks of training in which you will learn another 25% each week by the end of the month your at 100%. Perfection
Think about it. In the grand scale of things 3 weeks is nothing. You can put up with a bitch for 3 weeks no problem especially when you know the experience you will gain from dealing with her and from the job will last you forever.
Dont stoop to her level and be a bastard to her though. Smile, be professional , ask her questions. Believe me your gonna meet asshole’s when you work. There is one in every office. Just be glad your not the asshole. LOL
I get this sick feeling in my stomach when I got to work and when I go to my department it gets even worse. It almost feels like a panic attack or something,
Yeah it is actually 4 more weeks she is helping me open the store and will be there for a week. I hope she does not fire any of my new people.
I what I meant by 25% of what I’m supposed to have learned in the first week of training. I have only been shown 25% of what I need to know this week!
How big of a difference do you think A314 and IS will make?
Its probably nerves and anxiety which are all normal reactions to your thoughts not the situation. Change your thoughts. When you get that panicky feeling just take one minute and take a few deep breaths. Put your hand on your stomach and breath into to it and then exhale nice and slow. Then while you doing this ask yourself this… Whats the worse thing that can happen if this job doesn’t pan out ? You wont die, You are still safe, Your family is safe. You still have a family that loves you, you were thinking of moving anyways so you can still fall back on that plan. Nothing really bad that you cant handle is going to happen. You know you can do this. Its not totally foreign to you, You can learn, you have done it before. I’m not gonna let some bitch stand in my way… By the time you get here you will be feeling a lot less panic and moving into determination.
When you go over what you know with her next time be sure to point out that she has not trained you in these areas yet. Then say something like… “I guess the saying is true a student is only as good as his teacher. I am confident I will figure it out though.” Say it with a smile on your face. It will confuse the hell out of her. It will also take the focus off what you dont know and put it on what she has not done. If she asks what you mean by that then say… “Just that you havent trained me in these areas yet.” The seed will still be planted though and my guess is she will start training you in those areas you dont know because suddenly your performace is a reflection of her.
Yes I know I am evil LOL
I think it will make a big difference. She will tone down her bitchiness and be in a better frame of mind around you. It cant hurt.
First off mate DON’T PANIC!! I work for a company with 350,000+ people there are all types with the way things are in the US I would imagine job security is a tough thing to come by so chances are trainers are one of the first people to go. Smart ones won’t teach you all their secrets because they want to increase and maintain value to the company.
That being said even if you learn 25% of what she teaches you, that’s fine you’ll learn on the job, ask others if you have questions. If you know someone in the company get them to mentor ya. They already hired you and it cost $$$ to train you so… if things fall apart who do you think they will be pissed at? That’s right the instructor. My advice tho is to keep your mouth shut for now. Bad mouthing the instructor to the boss or whatever can only hurt you since they prob know her and they don’t know you.
Just remember they have already invested $$$ and time in you, so once again DON’T PANIC.
As for mones I would put some a314 on, that will make you a bit more care free and add to your sense of value.
Hope this helps cheers.
Oh one more thing you may be in a class full of engineers, scientists or whatever, sure they may be really smart or know what they are doing in a specific field but chances are they still know shit about the company and are going through the EXACT training. Don’t sweat the small stuff mate
Thanks. everyone I really appreciate it, I came home last night and had a good meal, got to see my wife for the first time in a week, and slept 10 hours and feel alot better. I have to go back up there on Sunday to go back on Monday. I’m going to study now and keep my head down for a month and try the best I can not to let her effect me.
I’m sure after my recruiter called her she is going to be really pissed at me.
I’m going to try Tisha’s suggestion of A314+IS should be a good combo.
Quantity: 2 drops of A314 to neck X4 IS to head
Cologne cover: nautica
Environment: work
Self Effects:
Effects on Others:
Range: 6-12 feet
Wow talk about a long day. This woman is really getting on my nerves nothing but bad talk today about me.
It first started out good me and her were joking and laughing and everything was going fine. Then she starts getting in a bad mood, she tells me how slow I’m and how we have deadlines to meet, and how I would never reach them at this stage. She told me that we are far behind on my training ant it is my fault because she had to show me something two times last week.
Now we are so far behind that I have to work 1-11pm on Tuesday and 6am-5pm on Wednesday to “catch up’ on my training.
I had to take a test on what I was supposed to learn last week and got a 95% which is great. The first thing she said is what did you miss? I cannot believe you missed this one I cannot believe you missed that one and so on. In the end she said well this is what most people are tested on in their 6th months here so I guess it is acceptable.
I was like I gained the knowledge in a week what most people it takes six months to get; In my opinion it is damn good.
Then she gives me my review and tells me I have extremely bad time management skills, this coming from the fact that she only shows me something once and expects me to know it like the back of my hand.
She told me that the only thing that saved me last week was my test score this week.
I’m sick and tired of being called a slow worker I took a task last week that took me three and half-hours and completed it in two this week I call this progress. I look at her other workers and they work just as fast as I do so I’m not sure what is going on.
Reads like “hazing” to me. Has this woman trained others before you and if so, were their experiences the same? Perhaps she’s former military? Or watched “Full Metal Jacket” 100 times and thinks she is R. Lee Ermey? Buck up soldier, don’t let her break you.
Having been in a few situations like this, I’d say. . .she’s in trouble and you look like a good scapegoat. It seems counterintuitive, but keep in touch with your recruiter AND make some contacts in the command chain. You don’t want to seem like a complainer, but at the same time, this trainer is not doing her job correctly.
There is a self-help organization /pyramid scheme that uses “realms of knowledge” to help describe your learning experiences (in my experience, they also use it incorrectly, but here is a logical breakdown of what IS right.
There are 4 realms of Knowledge:
What you know that you know.
What you know that you don’t know.
What you don’t know that you know.
What you Don’t know that you don’t know.
You can accept #1 as a given, these are things you have well in hand and don’t have to worry about.
These are the things you are consciously learning. They should get 80% of your attention.
These will come as sudden insight. Don’t put time into “making them happen” This will encompass 0-5% of your learning experience depending on the person.
Things it would never have occurred to you to ask or wonder. Watch for these moments. 15-20%.
Oh and document all communication with your recruiter, anything specifically wrong with trainer says, and all conversations further up the food chain.
It does not take a person of immense intelligence to insult and be critical of others. That if anything, just makes situations worse and the person resent you even more.
A trainer who is only capable of seeing all the bad but not the good will only fall towards their inevitable death in their own hands one day.
Criticism of others only works if they at all, show any displays of being affected by it. Their ultimate aim is not to want to improve others but the main purpose would be to feel emotional sadistically happy when they do screw others with their power and watch as people beneath them squeal.
Nothing good will come off it in the long run. Continue being the awesome person you are and allow all un-constructive criticism to just go past you unaffected.
Just trust what you have been doing is fine unless you feel that you really are at fault.
