Any help is welcome.. they keep shitting all over the place, we need to get rid of these pests.
Use mosquito nets? I don’t live in actual houses anymore, but when I was a kid, we had mosquito nets installed with wood on windows and doors to prevent so many bugs from coming in, seems to do the deal with those ugly lizards too. (Yeah, I totally hated them especially when I’ve already had those horrors dropping on my head once in a while.)
thanks but the problem is with lizards who are already in the home..
Cowboy friend of mine once told me “You don’t have to kill 'em all. You just have to make ‘em want to go where the livin’ is easy”
Round here moth balls (camphor) whole and crushed are a favorite. Spread around the foundation they’ll keep out scorpions to skunks, stop dog diggin’, cat peein’, etc.
Your problem is on the inside so try this.
First put up fly strips, sweep the spider webs out of the corners, put out the roach motels. I’m sure you don’t have any of those critters in your house, (riiight) but we need to be certain the reptiles are denied a food source.
Then we can get out the guns. Rosemary oil, thats the ticket. Smells sort of soapy clean. Apply early in the day. Rosemary is a stimulant. Occasional insomnia has been noted. Usual cautions apply. Pregnency, allergy, high blood pressure, epilepsy, etc. Antibacterial/viral. One of the ingredients that the Egytians mummified with. Direct application is insecticidal. Covers the scent of decomposition and misdirects carrion feeders like flys. Most animals (and reptiles) avoid direct contact.
Use a hand pump sprayer. 1 gal. is probably good. 2 qt. of water with as much rosemary oil as you think you can stand. 2-3 drops dishsoap is probably ehough surfactant to get the oil to emusify. Shake before application and every few minutes during application.
Find the place in your house with the biggest open cracks to the outside. Door, window, baseboard.
Start in the room farthest away. Apply the rosemary around window frames, door frames, baseboards. Don’t forget plumbing and electrical feedthrus from the outside. (Even through conrete slabs) Do one room each day, working your way towards the place with the biggest open cracks.
Then mothball the foundation. Should clear out and keep out all kinds of creepy crawlys without a lot of killin’.
Olfactory engineering and the reptilian brain. Sounds familiar.
it’s pretty easy to kill em by stepping on them shrugs
haha

Thanks for the info.
I’m still not really sure it’s a lizard, it might be a mouse after all, but one that’s difficult to kill.. a bastard mouse who keeps leaving droppings..
man, around here lizards are considered to be a lucky sign in your home, they keep all sorts of insect populations under control. i wouldn’t even consider killing one. a mouse however would be dead meat.
Is there a way to tell what it is from the droppings?
Eg whether its a mouse or cockroach or anything else..
Any website with some guide perhaps?
Its weird how it hides and only comes out at night, and the dog doesnt stop it..
unfortunately i’m a bit of an expert on lizard crap. while they do kill off a lot of insects they obviously need to make new space for the next meal haha. the smallest lizards or geckos only leave behind one very small dropping. always black and on one end there will be a very small white “tail”.
i think mice and rats leave clusters of crap so it is very easy to tell the two apart.
This night they ate through a packet of spaghetti (plastic)..
Then it’s not a lizard cause there’s more than one small dropping.
Could it be a cockroach though?
no, sounds like you have rats/mice. lizards don’t care for italian food.
I’m thinking so too..
You have a mouse my friend haha… funny this came up… i just caught one 3 nights ago!
I was HORRIFIED when i saw the little bugger in my dog’s food bowl… the friggan crook came out at night… ran to her food bowl and took out 1 piece at a time… over and over again.
I’m not one to kill animals… i have a hard time killing bugs outdoors. I usually only kill insects if they are in the house but i gave this mouse the benefit of the doubt - i went and bought a “live” mouse trap. It’s made by Tomcat and it worked perfectly. I couldn’t sleep knowing it was in the house so i stayed up til 4:30 in the morning till i caught him. I picked up the trap and drove it 1/2 mile away and shook him out. It’s up to him to survive on his own… atleast i didn’t snap his spinal cord or thicken his blood to the point of heart failure.
peanut butter is THE HOLY GRAIL of mouse food… put some of that on the back of the trap and you’ll have that thing within a few hours at night time. Don’t wait up for him tho… i did and had to wake up 1 hour later for work…
lol

oh i almost forgot… this mouse left no turds… i only saw it because it made too much noise while in my dogs food… and always remember… where there’s one… there’s usually quite a few more.
Luckily for me - it’s been a few nights already and havn’t caught another one…

The holy grail of rodentdom is not peanut butter.
The holy grail of rodentdom is peanut butter smeared on bacon.
Gotta go. Good Eats is on.
you are right about peanutbutter, I have a bird so the occasional mouse is a given. the trouble is when you open a computer up and come face to face with one. (they can fit through the uncovered card slots in the back)
I put the side back on turned the computer on the side and threw him out in the yard, then about a week later I hear scratching by the back door, he was crawling under the door seal getting back in. He made it in just as I turned on the light, running the length of my apartment about 2" from the wall setting off all four traps and shimmying out under the front door. I am really surprised the poor thing didn’t have a heart attack.
As for Lizards, they are like spiders, they are there for a reason, Mainly bugs, so if you get rid of the bugs, you get rid of the spiders or lizards.
good show, I like Feasting on Asphalt and DD&D as well… (It’s too bad Alton Brown and Guy don’t enjoy their jobs)
In fact we bought some traps and caught the critters thanks to the posts here and info on the internet..
And we did use peanut butter !!!
It’s really effective!

With mice/rats, you have to make sure there is absolutely no food sources for them in your house. If there’s no food available, they won’t waste their time in your house.
glad to hear it
- unfortunately i found some shredded toilet paper today
- so it’s time for more traps ![]()
i also have a bird and a computer in the same room… might wanna check it out heh…
