How you hold yourself matters

This is less an experiment than a demonstration of an effect we all know. 30 nude models of various genders and body types are photographed in flattering and unflattering stances.

Though these cases are somewhat extreme, I have seen people carry themselves in each of these unflattering ways, and more subtle ones.

We have all seen Real Life examples of the Hollywood stereotype of the Instant transformation, and we have all felt the self effects of pheros and confidence, but some people don’t seem to know how they present themselves even when they feel confident. Personal presentation isn’t always automatic, and can be masked/distorted by habits or conditioning.

Illusions of the Body

“Said Rosie to her 5 Sisters” LOL

Wow! That is very interesting. As someone who has had confidence issues, this was eye opening. Makes me realize why sometimes people are much more drawn to me than others.

Wow, Its really amazing.. How your shoulders, neck, back and legs make a huge difference in how you appear to others.

The woman absolutely look more sexy and glow more (left side).

Thank You for sharing.. Really opens your mind and view on perception

Actually very helpful. I know many people who need to see this.

So in general I personally observe a more positive shine from the (life-side) models and am taking notes so I can do it too! —> shoulders back, chin up, at minimum a mona lisa smile… and just for men: the stance solid, with arms crossed strongly or completely out of the way of the open chest with elbows behind the centerline, back straight… and for women: a slightly arched back to pronounce chest, and elbows behind centerline except maybe a dainty hand sneaking in front.

Great post.

Interesting.

The lesson I took from the photos is that your hairstyle matters. Most of the subjects had a better hairstyle in the attractive photos.

I think hairstyle is indeed included in the ‘hold you hold yourself’ definition. But I agree, as I guy, a woman’s hair is one of the first things I look at. Sure has its importance. But the pictures are also true. No one likes a sloppy posture.

I was going through some old emails today, and found this link a friend sent me long ago. I don’t read anything into it, but it’s striking:

Before and After

Striking indeed!
