If i am in a social setting i only use my cell phone if its an awkward situation like waiting on a friend at a club. i have seen guys though if they have a really nice expensive phone pull it out to show it off. So i think it goes both ways if u have a expensive phone guys want to show it of kinda like if they have a nice car they always want to show that off to its just another status symbol. As for women using their cell to avoid men i think that’s pretty funny because ive seen it happen couple of times.

But quite seriously, the Engineering block toilets’ smell by association remind me of Pokemon Ranger - just because that’s what I tended to play when I was there on my DS. I’d spend upwards of 10 hours at uni cramming, and to take a break so my mind wouldn’t clam up - I’d go there.
It’s a guy thing - you wouldn’t understand ![]()
I’ve got a really expensive phone, but I’ve got it to do work with, not show it off.
My husband does this too. He always, always takes a book to the bathroom with him. I really don’t get it.
When I’m in there, I don’t want to spend any more time than necessary.
And if I want to read, I can think of a lot more comfortable seats than the porcelain throne. ![]()
I guess it comes down to going to the toilet being for guys, a very solitary place - where they are free to think and be alone.
I hat hate hate it when someone yells at me through the door and expects me to answer. Same reason as when we go to urinals - we go alone and stay completely silent - and have a personal bubble that grows by about three times than outside the toilet. It feels very odd using a urinal next to another man. A buffer zone is very necessary.
As forthe book - it’s something to do. Some of us don’t think all that often, and a book is a great way of entertaining. Going to the toilet is in some ways like meditation. (By going to the toilet I mean number 2’s - number 1’s are just a “get it done” kind of deal). But for a while, even after we’ve finished - we might sit there and continue reading.
It’s a nice time to be alone, and we savour it.
Just like we will never understand how girls are so social and go in groups when they pee - you may never understand why we see it as a very solitary activity. ![]()
Great candor. Thanks for the frank reply.
I don’t understand it either. I abhor it when people who expect me to be glad that they’re wanting to go to the bathroom with me. I’ve been able to wee-wee by myself since I was two years old. I certainly don’t need company now.
I expected not to understand men very well.
I’ve never really understood women either, at least not most of them. It’s probably because of my raising, I was the youngest child of six and the only girl. Spent a lot of time around guys when I was young. I find myself caught somewhere in the middle most of the time, and don’t ever truly fit in with either group. But out of all my friends, the ones I’m closest to are men.
