Need help decyphering a facial expression

I have a question about a facial expression that I was flashed today. I was in line at my work cafe, purchasing a drink. There is a Russian woman that was also in line across from me. For a moment our eyes met, we both held the gaze, I smiled, and she did this weird thing… She began to smile, but then she sucked her cheeks in to actually stop herself from smiling. WTF is that all about? What would that mean? Anyone know, or want to venture a guess?

Maybe she was yawning and didn’t want you to see her.

Thank you for your reply!

Hmmm… possible. I think she would have placed her hand over her mouth. She is very cultured and well schooled. Speaks 5 languages fluently, college graduate, very smart so I hear. Leggy and a redhead  Plus it did not look like a yawn. It was just a really odd face to make. It has remained in my mind all day.

I was wearing pheros (of course). Possibly she is pherosensitive? Maybe it is just one of those crazy one time things! I will see what I can do to test around her again though…

Does she know if you are ‘taken’? Maybe she realized that you were off the market and didn’t want to seem interested.

Maybe she was showing you what she looks like when she plays the skin flute?

LMAO!

The only way to know if a hit was a hit is to reproduce it. If you can’t get the same response out of her a second time, it was nothing.

Maybe she started to smile but felt a burp coming and tried to repress it.

While there are certainly many universals in facial expressions, some are culture specific and may not be understandable outside that context. I work in an extremely international environment and we have all sorts of misunderstandings between different cultures due to “misreading”. Usually White employees misread Asian facial expressions or vice versa. Often the expression is interpreted the opposite of the what the person intended! Anger and disinterest are the two most misread facial expressions. The most common one is a new White professor thinks his Asian students are totally disinterested and disengaged–buddha like facial expression–and is surprised to find later these are his best students ever.

I am not sure, this could be a possibility.

Skin flute!!! This made me giggle to myself for quite a while. LOL I will have to ask my wife what she thinks about playing the skin flute tonight! See how she likes that one!

An attempt to control her outward expression; There’s a book: ‘SUPERFLIRT’, about body language.

maybe she has bad teeth and as her instincts made her feel like smiling her insecurities made her fight it so you wouldn’t see her dingy yellow smile.

I knew a hot mama with two missing front teeth (bike accident). She actually stopped smiling for a year while the implant bolts were taking.

Wow your way over analyzing one facial expression. Did she give any other indicators of interest ?

It could be a million things that have absolutely nothing to do with you.

She could have bit her tongue

She could have been thinking about her lunch.

She could have been thinking about your lunch

She could have been thinking about a project she has to finish

She could have had to fart.

Yes there are times when it could be a attempt to control a outward expression but if there was no other IOI and no other Body language ques then even with eye contact some expressions are just expressions and have little to do with the person your making eye contact with.

I would definitely hang around her more with your mones on and test it out just dont over analyze or you will make yourself crazy and appear unnatural and uncomfortable.

Tisha

Maybe she has a twinkle tooth or forgot to brush…idk who knows ?

Next time mirror the face back at her then laugh and wink. What the hell see what happens.

Yeah, I sometimes get confused and suck my cheeks in right before farting.

A single expression outside of any baseline of context is tough to decipher, but there are occasions where people will physically try to “suck back” an expression (or even sometimes something they’ve said) because they become self-concious for whatever reason.

Did you happen to notice what her eyes did at that point … ?

I will give an update… since this encounter, she has done the look again. Last night on the way out of work, she passed by my desk, and gave me the same look. So in conclusion I have narrowed it down to either she is gassy or has an issue with her teeth. Today I will find out for sure cause I am going to her desk to talk, then I can see her teeth, or smell her gas… one of the two!

Someone has to do it! but other than that I hope it turns out being the teeth and not the gas. Visually uncomfortable > Aromatically uncomfortable

Turns out she has chipped her tooth, and cannot get into her dentist until Monday. It embarasses her. LOL

Thanks guys for the help/entertainment!

I am glad it turned out not so smelly!

andrew8877, which pheros did you use ?
