Rads new hobby

Obstacle/mud racing! Great way to get in shape, looks like a lot of fun and pretty social as well.
Check out some of the races, there’s Metro Dash, Warrior Dash, Spartan Race, Gladiator Rock and Run, and the one I signed on for…Tough Mudder.

The races tour so you can sign up for various ones that come to your area.

Best of all most are making money for charity.

Reminds me of airborne training

What do you do run around obstacles in the mud or do you have to drive something ?? Mud is good for your skin. Get dirty

They’re foot races. The one I signed on for is Tough Mudder, I’ll be running a 10 mile race through hills, mud pits, flaming hay bales and electrical wire (yes one of the obstacles is live electric current ). Tough Mudder raises money for the wounded warrior project, a charity that helps out US Vets that have been permanently injured in combat. Eventually I’d like to try all of them though.

What mones you wearing?

I’ve wanted to do the Warrior one for a while. The videos from that look awesome as some people dress up.

it looks like they do that for all but the metro dash one. I saw some video of a girl doin tough mudder with a tiara and a tutu.

seeems like a shitload of fun!!!

r u going by urself?

Nah, got a couple of friends and some people at work to sign up too.

Looks cool, I will stick to sitting in the mud at the spa or when home on the farm though LOL. I dont think I can do some of those obstacles. Maybe if they had Mud meditating I would do it  I have chased a pig in the mud though :stuck_out_tongue:

Good luck be sure to tell us how it go’s

Thanks, I got till sept to train for it. Not too worried about the 10 miles, or the obstacles…actually looking forward to some of the crazier ones lol. Only real concern is that the location is 3000 feet above sea level and I live at about 300 feet, so I’m not sure how I’m gonna handle running at 10X the altitude I’m used to.

I started Wing Tzun training yesterday. Can I be apart of the cool guys now?

The original art Bruce Lee was trained in? hell yeah. I tried some of the trapping hands training that stuff includes…man the dude was redirecting my arms five different ways I felt like I was in one of those cartoons where one guy ties the other guys arms up into a nice little bow.

Its pretty remarkable training actually. The dude has a meetup group and basically is a master, but there are no schools that meet his criteria around. So in order to spar, he is training me for free on Saturday and Sundays. For an art that doesn’t actually move around a lot (the energy that is exerted is by the other person which you use to overcome them) I am sore as all hell today.

It’s really cool stuff though and in just a couple of hours I’ve learned a whole lot.

I want to do this course soooo bad. I just can’t find anyone to do it with!

Why do you need anyone to do it with? Just do it and take the victory for yourself.

Dude, find out when the event is gonna be in or near your area. I listed several so if one isn’t going to be nearby, others are bound to be.

Estimate how long you’ll have to train for the run.

Go to meetup.com and see if there are groups in your area that are based on that activity, if not…start your own group for a few bucks. (leadership position)

Use meetup to expand your social circle with people that share this interest and take a proactive leadership position with a team of guys that train and compete together in this course.

A Co-worker is doing it :stuck_out_tongue: He’s hooked to the tough mudders. I wonder if you’re doing the one in VT. GOODLUCK!!
