Royal Oud and Original Cologne by Creed

They’re new and I don’t think they’re available yet, but I wanted to start a thread to fish for any impressions of the two if anyone gets either of them when they come out. Both sound interesting, and I’m pretty much a Creed fanboy, so I’d be interested on some opinions.

Thanks!

My dear friend!

I tried a sample of Royal Oud in Dubai the other day. It’s relatively similar to other Oud scents out there in that you can sense / live the “Arabian-ness” of the product. It’s quite strong, but you will definitely stand out.

Haven’t tried OC, but will try to do so soon and will revert back with impressions!

Great! The Perfumed Court has both, and as soon as I can wrangle my bank into submission (or store my funds elsewhere, as it’s beginning to look more and more like), I’ll grab a sample of each.

Royal Oud appears like it’ll be a good cold weather fragrance, so I really can’t wait to try it.

You have some great taste in niche perfumes, which I always appreciate!

When you get a chance, try:

  • Chergui by Serge Lutens (utterly fantastic and combined with A314, a true “leader’s” cologne)

  • The One by D&G (I’m not a huge fan of mass market, but this one really did capture my imagination, and that of my wife! Very good and classy)

I have an Oud sample on the way, and will say what I think here then- I also have Royal Water, and that is a very clean aquatic that layers well will the socialsand A314 I think (Balances a314s spiciness, in my book.)

Also have Creed’s Aventus on the way, which I’m looking forward to testing.

I received a bottle of Creed Royal Oud last evening.

On the third pump a small amount made it onto my wrist. I rubbed it with my other wrist and found my nose soon buried between them. Oh so delicious!

I’ll worry about the notes later - after I get more essential oils and synthetics to use to calibrate my nose. I have some genuine oud oil coming from southeast Asia and a synthetic blend that passes for oud. Along with Wonderwood by Comme des Garcons I’ve got some javanol, cashmeran, coumarin, helionol and norlimbanol coming to add to my collection.

This morning I sprayed my wrist again and received a full spray - that is WAY TOO MUCH! I was overcome with a cedar like note that had me outside nose to the wind! :o

First impression is that it is so concentrated that it is like 3 bottles in one.

Spent the day at work basking in this Creed Royal Oud.

Woman in the next cube commented that it is “Wonderful”.
She has never commented on my cologne before.

I think that is one for good projection.

RO is really amazing to me, and I’m surprised it hasn’t taken off to become THE talk of Creed’s men’s line. It might be the price. $300 for a 2.5 oz bottle is a wee prohibitive, even for Creed. I really can’t justify spending that right now, but man-oh-man, I really wish I could. There may be a development in the next week or two that will free up some funds, so here’s hoping. I’d seriously consider buying an 8 oz. flacon of the stuff if they offered it and I had the dough.

My favorite thing about it is the drydown. Now, I love my Millesime Imperial and GIT, and will always have a place on my shelf for those two, but Royal Oud’s drydown eat’s MI and GIT’s drydown for breakfast. It just blossoms into something wonderful and makes me go out of my way just to smell it.

So, having tried Royal Oud, I think that it’s a fantastic, exactly as described scent. Parisian/Persian. Very royal, very desert, very resiny, to me. Little bit heavy, but I think it’d be a fantastic scent to use to stand out and in combination with respect mixes.

Aventus was the more usable, general item in the shipment for me. It’s clean, a little ‘sporty’ but I think it’s executive-nature play out well once the pineapple topnotes calm down. I’d wear oud occasionally, but aventus daily.

Well, this is a first for me. Due to a sudden situation involving my job that came from out of nowhere, I’ve got a little extra money. All my previous Creed purchases have been through reputable discount resellers, but tonight I’ve made my first full-price purchase directly from the Creed Boutique. My Royal Oud will be arriving in the next week or so.

Were you buying decants previously?

Sometimes, when it’s a new fragrance I want to try out. For my full bottles, I get GIT and MI from FragranceNet.com. I get 15% off from them through my company (which is funny, since the industry I work in has nothing to do with perfumery ).

I’ve always wanted to try Oud but it seems way to expensive. I can’t justify paying that much for something that doesn’t have mones in it…
