(HealthDay News) – Folic acid is an important B vitamin for women – especially for those who are pregnant or who are planning to become pregnant. It can help prevent serious birth defects of the baby’s brain and spine.
Folic acid may also benefit men and women of any age, the U.S. National Institutes of Health says.
You should always talk to your doctor about what’s an appropriate amount for you. The NIH site womenshealth.gov offers these general guidelines about folic acid:
Women who are able to become pregnant should take 400 micrograms of folic acid each day.
Pregnant women need 600 micrograms daily.
Breast-feeding women need 500 micrograms daily.
Women who have had a baby with certain birth defects – such as spina bifida or anencephaly – and who want to have another baby should check with their doctor. These women may need as much as 4,000 micrograms of folic acid per day.
Women who have had a baby with these birth defects and who do not plan to have another baby should take 400 micrograms daily.
Ohhh, why’d you have to go and say that Mohammad. Now you’ve made me realize that you just might not be the nicest guy in the world, but just a couple levels above the rest of us.
But seriously, you always have great posts and advice to give, and I always lookm forward to reasing your posts and threads.
I was away most of the time, nature of work doesn’t permit me to be with her and kids, so I guess she got lonely and fed-up. She re-married and I guess she did the right thing for her and the growing kids.
(woman needs a full time husband and kids need a father, I was none of those)
Folic acid is great for those experiencing hair loss.
I work for a rheumatology clinic (from home) and many women experience hair loss when put on methotrexate. The usual dose is 1 mg daily for side effect prevention (of which there are many on this med), but if experiencing hair loss they normally up it to 2 mg daily.
As far as I know it’s better to take a full vitamin b complex, because the absorption of the one vitamin b might interfere with the other b’s. So, if you take a lot of Folic Acid, it could reduce the amount of resorption of all other b vitamins.
Mohammad Your always a good source of information is there anything you don’t know How are you my friend your still giving people advice on their dietary intake I see, you should start charging commission for your advice or do some freelancing on the side. Dr Mohammad to the ER Paging Dr M to the ER we have a Loverectomy.
Ha!Ha! To tell you the truth, I wished to be a doctor, (was once married to a nurse) but destiny chose something else for me. In my free time, I work with a Medical Relief Society. The invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq by the Allied forces some time ago triggered my sense of responsibilities to help out the war victims especially women and children who suffered the trauma. But at least today, I see there is peace…perhaps for a time being…
Actually, it is the other way around…I learned more from the forum members here than they from me.
Anyway, Buddy, thanks for your kind words!
May God bless you and everybody here with all the happiness and prosperity.
Thanks again!

There will never be peace with our fucking war monger president in office!
It’s a sad day for Americans when the world sees the U.S. as invaders and murderers of women and children.
The allied nations were not given a choice: "You are either with us or you’re against us "FUCK YOU BUSH!!! Someday he will be held accountable for his crimes!
I realize that this thread was not of a political nature, but when I see and read about how other nations now look at the U.S. it really grates on my nerves. Up until 8 years ago we were a peaceful nation who had never started a war. And now, we will never be looked on that way again.
