Yeah same story here, for a while there I was using a mix of Cool Water and The Edge/NPA and I really didn’t smell too much asides from the alcohol scent, when all of a sudden one day I was mixing up a fresh batch when it just plain hit me. It was like some one flicked on a switch and I was able to smell -none. Ever since then I’ve had no problem detecting it’s scent. Although for me it smells sharp, bitter and musky; very unpleasant, but not quite the scent of feet or B.O.
It makes me wonder if that 20-30% of guys who can’t smell -none were exposed to it regularly if they would eventually pick up the ability to smell it.
Apparrently androstenol has a similar smell to androstenone (wikipedia describe it as simply “musk”), and is also found in human sweat, so that complicates things. Androstenol is also found in truffles and some vegetables (celery, parsnips). I’ve only used combined pheromone products so far, so haven’t smelled them individually.
I recently purchased a bottle of Raw Power. It has a scent to me, I can’t describe it really, but it doesn’t smell bad. I really only smell it at first but afterwards I don’t notice it.
Is Raw Power buffered with anything? Does it smell bad to some people or can I wear it without cover? I’ve only worn it with cologne cover so far.
The interesting thing that this poll suggests is that 40% of guys on this message board can not smell 'None. Which is a far higher percentage than I have been led to believe it was.
I wouldn’t be surprised if few women were genuinely anosmic to androstenone. Women usually have a better sense of smell than men. So, even if you can’t smell it, other people will.
This whole discussion reminds me of coffee. 10 years ago I couldn’t tell the difference between coffee except between a French roast and everything else. Now days I can tell the difference between a Columbian, Brazilian, and a Mexican/Central American, a Java/Sumatra, to the point I could probably tell you what continent at least the coffee came from. It is very subtle (it’s not like cherry coke vs. regular coke), but the more you are expoed to it, the more you pick up on it.
For what it’s worth…I prefer the ‘scent’ of Raw Power to A314. Now that could be 'cause Wolf uses the older version of A314…it has that icky agarwood scent…I believe that’s the one before the, now used, Royal Oil scent. Gotta get new A314, for him, 'cause you guys seem to like the Royal Oil one…
It’s funny how people percieve the scent of different pheromones…for example…I don’t find Instant Female Magic to have an offensive odor…as many others do…go fiqure?..
most likely one of these two, im not sure though… its definitely anone doing that but im not sure which one, as there is very little -none in A314 and Ammo has a cover scent in itself
At first, I was repulsed. Now, I get a rush when I smell it on me because I know good times are coming. Its funny how it seems that receptors in my brain have changed my perception of smell to actually enjoy something so… I wouldn’t say disgusting, but rather unappealing to the untrained nose.
But god damn if I could just sit and sniff myself all day after applying some -none I’d be tweakin hard…
then again, ifm doesnt have a scent at all to me while i read somewhere that its supposed to stink to high heaven. i dont get the depressing effects from it either.
I have to disagree with the “most women can smell it” hypothesis. I have yet to meet a woman who detected anything off about what I wear. And I wear alot of none, and very often. They can “detect” something and can zero in on the fact that it is smell related but cannot actually perceive an odor. If you give them something to smell…cover scent, a nice cologne, etc., they will attribute it to that. And it is ALWAYS positive. I must have come into contact with hundreds of women since I started using pheros and not a single one has EVER shown a single sign of negative response to them, let alone said anything about an odor of any kind. Many of said alot of nice things about my “cologne” etc.
I can’t really tell if any men find anything odd…since none of them would dare say anything.
The only phero product I ever detected anything myself with was A314. First couple of bottles I got smelled like butt cheese and required alot of cover scent for me to tolerate it. The last bottle I got, however, doesn’t smell bad. It’s heavily musky but not unpleasant.
I can, sortof smell none but not in the way I’ve ever heard anyone describe it. It’s sort of a chemical undertone, similar to unscented hair spray, but it is definitely unique to none. In other words, I can pick it out as compared to various alcohol based lotions, sprays, colognes and other grooming products with a chemical smell. It’s not strong or unpleasant at all though.
Bonecrkr, i also couldn’t imagine that it smells negative to some women until i had one situation where i only wore 2 sprays of ammo and a girl said to me “eehh its smelling strange here, i think a cat pissed in the corner” - it was outside and a bit windy, i wasn’t even sure if the ammo was working under these conditions until she said that… after that comment she couldn’t leave me fast enough… (i didn’t smell anything unusual, just the normal ammo smell…)
Since i am using pheromones it was the only obvious negative verbal reaction on the androstenone smell i ever had… but i am not sure if a few more girls experienced a cat piss smell and didn’t dare say it…
but hey… if a girl doesn’t like it i move on to the next one…
btw. to me it smells a bit like burnt rubber… but in the meantime i like the smell…
Hmmm I’m quite interested in what the women have to say. Can you gals smell it and does it smell good or bad? Personally, I smell the alcohal after the initial application but then … nothing. Not even the scent! I’m waiting for my IFM to come in and then I will see if that smells bad as most people say it does.
First off: I wonder how many women actually “Smell” the scent vs “React” in some way (physically) to the effects of androstenone?
I know I don’t seem to get any “self effects” from pheromones. Nor have I been able to say with certainty that I can smell/“detect” pheromone odor. I can certainly say I can get bowled over when walking into a sweaty gym locker room, or when I visit the heavily male-occupied and poorly ventilated video game room at the anime convention I hit every year, but I can’t say its androstenone I’m picking up.
I have taken direct sniffs out of just ablut every bottle of pheromone product I have owned, including the unscented Primal Instinct, NPA, and The Edge, and the scented Ammunition, a314, Alpha 7, Chikara, etc. (also sniffed the androstenol, androsterone, androstadienone products as well) and can’t say that I could detect anything other than cover scent and maybe carrier scent. I sometimes pick up “something” that could be a pheromone scent, but it’s hardly noticable.
Now one thing I should point out. I have lived with cats most all my life. Have three in the house now, and have the fun duty of scooping the litter pans up to twice a day every day. So it’s possible that over the decades I have grown immune to the reported “cat piss” smells. I know some people whe do not have cats seem to react to levels of “cat pee” odor that go totally unnoticed by me. It could be a matter of natural sensitivity and just long exposure.
Note that I can certainly pick up even slight amounts of other odors. Perfumes, colognes, burnt vegatables, fresh cut hay, (although granted the preceeding odors can get pretty strong…) whatever, so I don’t think it’s a general lack of sense of smell. I also seem to have a problem with sinuitis which could be affecting any receptors farther back in the nasal passages (scent or pheromone receptors).
Depends on what you mean by “able to smell none”. Some people smell various things when none is around. Other smell “nothing”. Personally, all I smell is a distinct chemical odor, somewhat like unscented hairspray but very light. Because I know what none “smell like”, I would know if someone was wearing it. If I didn’t know what it smelled like, I would assume they were wearing some sort of mousse, hair gel, or something. It’s definitely identifiable though. In other words, I can tell it apart from other chemical smells from hair products or whatever. But only because I have experience with it.
Now, A314, that I smell something. The odd thing is it has changed over time. It used to smell pretty foul to me. Now, it smells sorta gamey, but not “bad”. I doubt it’s because of the none though.
I cannot smell IFM either.
I got a bottle of ammo about a year ago and no offense but I, along with others, cannot stand the smell of AMMO.
I think I prefer the smell of TUTH than AMMO.
I cannot really smell the -none initially, but maybe if it has been an hour after the application, then maybe I am able to detect it.
