Yea: I asked four friends to homecoming and it's the fourth year I won't be going

Acne goes away bud - I had pretty bad skin right up until just recently (and I still get break-outs… right now I’ve got this fucking annoying sucker right below my eye that is still healing from 3 weeks ago. I don’t think it liked being cleaned in China water)

My suggestion, if you can find it, is trying Biotherme Homme’s line of men’s facial products. Get the facial cleaning stuff in the white bottles (i can’t remember the name) and one of their mosturizers. Make sure it is for your skin type. That stuff that is on TV works alright as well… but I find it is more limited (P.Diddy and Jessica Simpson endorse it).
Probably the biggest thing you are missing for your skin is using a quality mosturizer… most guys don’t and I’ve found it makes a huge difference helping me control my breakouts.

Finally I would suggest getting a haircut - Your haircut is a little boring… it doesn’t really exude personality. The best way to get a good haircut IMO is to go to a GOOD SALON (one with good reviews for men’s cuts) and tell the person cutting your hair to use their discretion - Just to make you look good however they want. If you DON’T want a particular hairstyle, just say what you don’t want.

I could see you rocking a messier Faux-Hawk.

OH… and if you drastically change your look (hairstyle is the easiest way) be prepared for people at school to rag on you for a day or two.

Highschool kids DONT LIKE CHANGE… DONT STOP STYLING YOUR HAIR BECAUSE SOME PEOPLE TELL YOU THAT YOU LOOK RIDICULOUS. Its an unfortunate part about highschool, you change your hair drastically and suddenly everybody rags on you because it means that they need to reevaluate you and they don’t like doing that.

This may seem odd, but I’ve noticed that Instant Shine, Meo-Est and A314 all seem to have worked very well to clear up my complexion with Meo-Est (~150 mcg total) and A314 (1 drop to each side of my neck) being the most affective. Not necessarily the cheapest alternative but just a suggestion.

How old are you Shred?
I used to be the same way… always kinda down on my self, not assertive.
But as I’ve grown up more… i’m almost 26 now… I’ve learned to just wing it more really… another way of thinking that helped me a lot is that you get from others what you give… sounds crazy but if you do good by other people it WILL come back to you in the same way. Things will get better.

You’re not a bad lookin kid. I had huge weight issues when I was in hs and still do to this day. Constantly trying to work on that though.

MW gave some really good advice, you should definitely listen to her.

You’re obviously highly passionate about your guitars, and women love guys who are passionate about something. The suggestion to write some super badass music… it’s a great suggestion. Find a way to put on a show and let people see you shred like mad on those bad boys. There’ll be a shitload of females who’ll be interested by that. Plus guitarplayers normally have to have good finger movement.. a few females will dig that aspect as well

good luck!

Oh, sweetie… I’m not entirely sure where to go with this. The root of the whole thing is that you have to be YOU. There is no imitation of someone else that will ever be half as interesting as being yourself.

About style, grooming, etc: It sometimes takes some experimenting, trial and error, before you land on a look that works for you. There is no substitution for you own imagination. Good advice, by the way, about letting a stylist figure out the cut for you. They have training, and an innate talent for this work, or they wouldn’t be landing the jobs at the best salons. If you’re worried about what you’ll end up with, ask them to do your cut a little long, so you can have it re-cut if you hate it. Or better yet, just remember that no matter what you get, it’ll grow out in a couple of weeks. DO NOT go get a haircut at Walmart, or wherever. Those stylists are working for peanuts, and most of them don’t know any more about a scissors than I do.

About finding a style that suits you:

  1. It has to fit and be comfortable, meaning you have to feel at ease and be glad to look the way you’re causing yourself to look.

  2. It should say something significant about you. For instance, long hair like your avatar says ‘musician, probably head-banger ala 1992’. What you wear and how you groom yourself speaks about who you are underneath.

  3. You need to be willing to take a little flak about what you’ve chosen. Particularly in high school, people can be cruel. Like Wrlprchnx said, be prepared for people to give you a hard time at first. It doesn’t mean that you’ve made bad choices. I was there once, and I remember. I was a very smart kid, who graduated two years early, third in my class of 340. I got picked on a lot. It just meant that they didn’t understand me, didn’t know quite how to deal with me. It did not mean that there was something the matter with me.

  4. The persona that you project is so much more important than the package you wrap it in. And it often louder than the wrapping. A confident demeanor and a pleasant personality will take you farther than you might think.

I think I’ve made this example on the forum somewhere before, but i can’t find it. However, my daughter has two guy friends, both of whom are in high school. Guy A is handsome, athletic, and has an incredible body. He dresses nicely, is kind and considerate, and never seems to do anything offensive to anyone. Poor guy can’t seem to get a girl to save his life.
Guy B is somewhat on the plumper side, isn’t particularly handsome, and has a shaggy, non-descript haircut. He is kind, silly, sometimes loud and doesn’t seem to care what othes think about him. He has the loveliest girlfriend, and has almost always had his pick of the ladies in his school.
The difference between the two is loud and clear to those who know them. Guy A is incredibly shy and has a hard time talking to anyone. Guy B is confident, and seems to be friends with everyone. His personality traits have carried him so much farther than Guy A’s good looks.

Just something to think about.
Oh, by the way.. Guy B plays guitar, too.

Yeh definetly do not go to Walmart… you should be looking to spend 30$ + tip for your haircut.

I know that pricetag is a shocker if you are used to spending 10$ getting your hair trimmed at the local Ultracuts… it is worth every penny!

or do what i do and just buzz it yourself… looks nice and clean… girls like to rub a freshly buzzed doo :stuck_out_tongue:

I couldn’t do that… I look somewhat grostesque with a shaved head

I tried it once and couldn’t wait for my hair to grow back

did you shave it all?
I usually just shave it like 4-5 mm in length… but yea it’s not for everyone :\

fortunately it does work for me most of the time haha.

i was considering growing it out a bit tho and going to see a stylist… but i’m still not 100% sold on that. my hair looks best when it’s at the length in the pick on the left.

cept there’s lots of grey/silver… but… lately that seems to have a more profound effect on the ladyfolk.

thatll happen

:open_mouth: Dude, you’re only 29 :open_mouth:

i have a few at 26… i have a cousin who is 3 years younger than me and is entriely bald

Lol… to much stress and hard living. i’m trying to cut back on that a bit.

my friends were joking about it a bit yesterday but no big deal. it’s a ‘mark of distinction’ or a ‘sign of wisdom’ lol

Honestly i think a few silver locks are nice..

Dang!! I’ll be 61 on Friday and just have a bit of gray at the temples, and didn’t get those 'till my 50’s.

Yes, indeed.
I like that look very much.
My husband has quite a bit of grey in his hair (he’s 37) and I’d be upset if he ever decided to color it.

Well, Shred, you aren’t a bad lookin guy, and from what I can tell, you seem to have a kind presence, which is such a good thing
Love seeing that kind of presence show through people.

My advice, learn to be comfortable to be able love yourself, before trying to find love in others. Do things which make you happy, which make you comfortable. These days people emphasize the other person, the observer of one’s self, and then the individual themselves, based on that other persons assessment. But, in this process, when we make the other person the judge, we always lose.

Keep in mind, that those very people you are placing so much emphasize on, are operating on the very same mechanisms as you are; they are basing themselves, on the emphasize of others! Meaning, that those who suppose you, base their value on others suppositions. So, how can another’s assertion, possibly be true, if their identity, is merely established on the foundation of others, who base themselves on the same logic! That, my friend, leads to a fundamental breakdown of meaning in the operation of establishment. :open_mouth:

Operating under that logic, leaves one valid truth about an individual, only the individual can logically establish self abstraction!

Much love,
Dominick

Just think about it this way,
How can others tell you who you are, when they don’t know who they themselves are?!
