Tips for dating online, singles ads

I found this (don’t ask how)
but it is pretty interesting to me, kind of like picking up a Cosmo to see how the other side thinks.
Any way I thought it was worth sharing-

What to watch out for when dating online

I mean who hasn’t posted a singles ad somewhere? It is a much easier way to meet more people and find some interesting friends if nothing else. And what are the chances of the right person being in the same bar, library, books store, coffee shop or mall you are?

If nothing else throw a free profile, or two, up online and see what hits you get-

For the person who negatively Rep’ed me with-

You are entitled to your opinion, and I thank you for voicing your it, but please sign your name to the reps.

In reply, I would like to say-
Socially I have met a few people but seldom anyone I have had much more in common with than a stranger in line.
Don’t get me worng I have dated a few people for an extended period of time with little in common.
but I have met more intersting people with similar intrests in 3 months online than I have in 10 years of living in the area. The bars here are typically filled with Alcohol seeking teens, or 40+ year old bar flys who were teens seeking alcohol at the same bar 20 years ago.

Ouch! Negatively rep’ed just for merely talking about online dating? That ain’t cool! I mean it’s not like you were saying online dating is the ONLY way to go or something.

…I never really got into the whole online dating thing personally, but hey there’s a LOT of people who have hooked up through the internet over the years, so I suppose they can’t all be losers.

Aww, sorry to hear that you got neg rep’d for just mentioning tips for online dating lol (I’ll rep you to make up for your loss there)

I’m not that interested in online dating, it’s just too risque cause it’s internet, and it could be anyone. However, one of my friends’ is married to a guy she met over the internet for 7 yrs so far. Yea, they met each other and lived together at one point to see if things worked out and it did, so I guess you never know lol

I have to say that people are entitled to their OPINIONS, but it pisses me off when these people think their OPINIONS are fact. Confusing opinion with fact is a good way to make an ass of yourself. So if you think dating online is for losers, great, that’s your opinion. But to negatively rep someone for talking about it is childish and stupid.

Now the question is… is what I have said opinion or fact? Hmmm

I think that it’s a mix of both lol!

Dating online is for socially unaware losers. Sorry, but its true. A female telling it like it is.

Here’s another “female telling it like it is.” Woman the hell up and have the guts to sign your negative rep. And please, whoever you are, don’t presume to speak for me ever.

You never know where you’ll meet a kindred spirit. When you open doors you never know when someone wonderful may wander in. So, IN MY OPINION, kudos for opening all possible doors, Woofie. Here’s where the smoochie kiss icon goes.

And rep love from Bella.

Well, well…don’t you have good timing? LOL.

Couldn’t agree with you more, catlord. Welcome back.

Bella

Thanks everyone!

Exactly, I was thinking more for the rest of us willing to search and deal with the emails, I have met some interesting people, granted several losers and freaks, but a few interesting people. None worthing having an LTR with yet. but several I am emailing and talking with.

Thanks miss Bella. you are correct, when the right forces in the world are working, you never know how people could be brought together.

I will say this much, I used the hints from the guide, to modify my profile. Now I have gotten more direct email hits off my profile in the last few days than I have in 6 months, that or it is colder and everyone are just emailing more.

Hell, I met my wife through online dating several years ago, we now have two kids and, after a rough patch which is well documented on here, are getting stronger than ever!!

By email messaging you get a feel for the person and a chance to weed out the (more obvious) weirdo or pervert before risking meeting them at a bar. Plus guys get to avoid the obvious bunny boilers without having to buy them dinner first.

Dating online for losers, well then, I’m for the losers.

Perhaps the person who neg rep’d Woofie had experience of the ‘wrong sort’ of dating site, you know, where all the avatars are hairy genitals and everyone has a penchant for leather and whipped cream!

Internet dating is an awesome way to meet people - I know alot of people (myself included) who don’t have tons of problems meeting people at the club but prefer online dating.

Biggest problem with online dating is that you tend to go for whom you THINK is good for you - In my case I’ve determined that I am really good at picking people with whom I have great attraction but annoy the shit out of once things get long-term.

That’s awful. That makes me wonder what this person is even doing at a pheromone website, as I could see them having the same sort of notions about that.

I’m definitely glad she referred to herself as a “female” here, because a woman would never be so condescending and rude. A woman would take ownership of that opinion, too, instead of hiding behind the anonymity of the internet to work out their self-esteem issues.

I do have to take you to task for this comment, woofie. Please do not ever pick up a Cosmo and think you are getting an accurate picture of how intelligent, mature women think and act. shudder :stuck_out_tongue:

I know, but it does help when you have to pick up on the subtle hints, those always throw me. Why can’t women come right out and say “I want…” “would it be nice if..” “how about we…”, but instead it’s “Joe and Suzie were doing …” “I had this friend who…” Or worse it: “awe, that’s cute” “that’s fun” all mentioned while you are doing something else, like watching a game on TV, under the car changing oil, or similarly preoccupied, and have no clue what she is even looking at.

LOL…i did try it.

After talking to this guy for awhile we decided to meet.
I remember him telling me what he looked like and, we swapped photos & all that. So, the date was set!

we arranged to meet in the Angel in Islington here in london. I got there first and, waited around for 5mins so, I could check him out when he arrived.

well, He came out the station looking exactly like his photo, apart from his height! He must have told me his height in milimeters or something( it sounded alot) his head was just above my knees…lol truly!! I could not go ahead with the meet since my ex, worked in the area and would have just had the biggest grin on his face if he had seen us. Needless to say, we did not keep in contact.

I thought i would share that…ahh feeling better. thanks

Wait! So he was a midget?!? …That’s hilarious!

Online dating threw me a curve tonight, the first time I decided to meet up with someone.

yeah!!!..lol :smiley::smiley::smiley:

The perils of online dating … some dates just come up a little short …

yep!!!..lol
